Our herd of 130 Red deer live in fenced paddocks over the farm in large family groups producing their fawns without any intervention from us.
All of the venison in our shop comes from our own animals, each animal is born, lives with its family and dies on the farm, we are rightly proud of our high welfare meat.
During your stay you will see our Stags . If you stay with us in the autumn you will hear them roar like a lion and bash antlers with other males to maintain their supremacy.
They will grow a full set of antlers each year. The antler is not horn or bone or nail or tooth, it is made from keratin, fed by a blood supply that runs in a covering called velvet. In the wild a good red stag, called a royal, will grow 12 points a year, ours will have 32!
You will notice that some of our red deer are white! They are not albino but leucistic, they simply lack the pigment that colours the hair red.
We have one rather special white deer called Blanche, she was mis-mothered and so has been hand raised by Eden and Adam, please do ask if you would like to meet her.
In a large tin shepherds hut situated on the Antler walk we have built a beautiful sauna.
In the hut you will find a cold immersion shower, lounge and changing area, fridge with soft drinks and water, Hammam towels and of course a beautiful private electric sauna with views over the farm.
The price of a private session for two people for two hours is £30. You can book and pay for your sauna session in the Honesty Shop once you arrive on the Farm
The sauna is available to be booked all day every day.
We are blessed to have 6 acres of ancient woodland on Ash Farm, filled with native trees which provide a canopy for the many plants that thrive in this dappled shade.
In 2023 we were awarded a FIPL grant though the Cranbourne AONB, which has allowed us to undertake the much needed management of this woodland, removing dead and dying trees and cutting a clear path for our guests to walk.
The grant also facilitated the purchase of 2000 new trees, allowing us to create a new woodland along the farm boundary.
As a Regenerative farm using organic principles we pride ourselves on the fantastic variety of wild flowers and native trees spread across the farm.
These form a vital part of our eco system, necessary for pollinating insects, providing habitats for small mammals and making our farm an incredibly beautiful place.
Each year we plant more trees and sow more meadows so that the programme of improvement is always moving forward.
In your hut you will find a guide to the farm pointing out flowers and trees to watch out for in each season.
Adam is a passionate advocate of Regenerative farming, aiming for minimal soil disturbance, farming a mixture of animal and crops together and putting the health of the sol above all else.
Farming without chemicals is not an easy option, but it allows us to produce beautiful quality meat whilst also allowing us to prioritise the environment.
Our newly planted traditional orchard will bear fruit in the next few years and our parkland deer are born raised and dispatched on the farm, we happy to chat to any of our guests who are interested in farming.
Our guests are welcome to use the cutting garden during their stay, planted over the last 3 years Ali aims to use mostly perennial plants for their deep roots and the fact that they do not require constant watering.
PLease cut a posy for your table and another to take home.
Alfred can be found lounging around the garden looking beautiful. Don't be fooled by the handsome looks, he is a devil and his nick name is Teddy No! as we spend most of our time shouting that at him!
Sir Stanley is the love of Ali's life (don't tell Adam)
He is completely perfect and can do no wrong.
Bisou...known as Boo...a small white wire haired Jack Russell who loves everyone. She has sometimes forgets where she lives, so if she follows you please bring her home.
Malinki.....small, smooth coated terrier and daughter of Bisou.
They do run free around the farm so please drive slowly.
Edens beautiful long dog Otis arrived summer 2022. He's the fastest animal on the farm and leave the terriers standing.
Surge is Eden's oldest horse, a wonderful riding hunting cob, he is most definitely the boss of the herd.
This is Merle, he is our miniature pony standing at just 80cm to the shoulder. He loves to meet guests, nibble fingers and run a-mock with the big ponies!
Eden's working farm horse is a beautiful Gypsy Cob called Zeus. They can be seen around the farm harrowing the fields and pulling logs, please ask if you would like to join them.
We have two hen houses. Just behind Adams barn you will find our laying ladies who produce our beautiful large blue and brown eggs.
Next to the cutting garden you will find our bantums these are much smaller breed of hens who lay perfectly formed little eggs.
